Silver
reclamation represents a source for additional revenue from photographic
solutions and in addition, the enactment of environmental laws by city, state
and federal agencies has resulted in discharge limits set for many materials.
Silver is one of the materials that is regulated.
Facilities
utilizing x-ray processing equipment are required by Federal Law to comply with
criteria set by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act for hazardous waste
discharge. The Environmental Protection Agency limits silver discharged from
automatic film processors to five parts per million (5 ppm.). Criteria on discharge limits for the water quality
standards were set in the 1970’s. The EPA set limits for silver discharge to
protect plant and animal life in fresh and salt water. The EPA regulates silver
according to three different standards; drinking water, hazardous waste (for
solid waste) and water quality.
Kool-X
Consultants/ X File Services provides silver recovery/pollution control equipment for x-ray
processors to medical and industrial facilities to meet the Environmental
Protection Agency regulations. Kool-X Consultants/ X File Services has provided services, since
